Cat Hand's Book of Color, Red

Looking at everyone's pages, I just thought there was TOO MUCH RED. It's not my favorite color. I like it, especially with rainbows. I love all colors, but so much red... maybe it's so much any color, I guess I'll find out when I do more pages. I am really thinking of doing backgrounds light and then adding color. I keep thinking about these as calendar pages, and as i am doing them 8 1/2 x 11 they will fit into page protectors. 

 I found some white with red paper so that was my base. The quotation just jumped at me from the beginning, not sure where it came from, but red is often associated with passion. I had an agreement with myself , NO HEARTS. Everyone has hearts. I can't stand to be the same...

after I did this I added a little more doodles and undoubtedly will add more. But it's a start.  And now I need a January page. I'm thinking black and white with tiny touches of each color. 

Cat Hand, book of Color

Starting Cat Hand's 2021 Book of Color series. So far, I have the cover done; maybe. I keep adding little things to it, but it's basically a multi colored collage of all the colors of the rainbow. 

I will probably add other colors if other colors are chosen. The first one is red for January. I have been gathering scraps of this and that of colored collage. I think it will be fun.

The whole cover. This will be a great challenge. Not the only thing I will be doing, but a little bit of structure, and challenge.

And using up "stuff". I gather interesting bits of stuff, and I'm getting them organized, so it will be easier for me to use them up.

The last Cat Hand Mixed Media Motivation

Cat's example has a napkin background. No napkin, but I found this tissue that worked. She had little squares of Christmas things, I didn't have any, but had the stickers left from my card making marathon.

This one made me laugh a lot.   Other than using everything different, I laughed when I was nearly done and I saw I had done it upside down in the book. BIG EYEROLL because it isn't the first time I've done that. Fortunately a lot of it didn't matter, and I carefully peeled up the stickers I could and turned it around. I saw that "perfect Christmas" sticker and knew it was perfect to cover a bit of tearing. And yes I smeared the lettering, and the white dots, but hey it was fun, and I like the results even though it is nothing like Cat's. And I've been agonizing a little about Christmas this year, it will be just the two of us, instead of any of our seven kids and families... but this sentiment is great, we will be fine, and we will isolate this year so we don't have to next year, and we will stay alive. 

I really do enjoy doing these little things. It's easy to finish them quickly, and it's fun to have a little book filled with inspirational stuff. I'm looking forward to what Cat comes up with this next year. And doing other stuff too. 

So off to print my Ginny dress pattern, and maybe get it cut out. I need to do dinner, but might just sew it later.

I'm trying to go through my "stash" of stuff and get things used up. These jumped in my cart at Dollar Tree and I have used SOME but not all. They fit very well with one of the quotes I printed today.

I am continually amazed at the quality of stuff at the Dollar Tree. Not everything, of course, toys for the most part are flimsy junk. I've found things once in awhile. But they always have a great big collection of stickers, and I am a sucker for stickers. 

So in spite of everything today we can laugh.

mini morsels

These are just for my inspirations notebook, which I started with the inspiration of Justine Hovey. This section is mini morsels with Cat Hand. Justine's class was a wonderful year long class where she showed us how to do so many things. Some of Cat's morsels are similar to what Justine did, but she broadened the field by using mixed media, not just inks. 

These are closeups. The actual card is only 3 by 2 1/2 inches. 

Mini morsel #4, glue resist

I did this with several different things. It is so fun to experiment. And I end up with a mini artsy thing. I put them in my notebook to remind me of all the things I have done, and so I can do the technique on something else, maybe a card, or in an art journal.

This is a glue resist with regular Elmer's glue and a wash with diluted acrylic paint. Dollar Tree sticker, Simon Says Stamp sentiment from their "Tiny Words" set. It's thin, so I just bent it around to curve around the glue.

This was also regular Elmer's glue. I then put undiluted acrylic paint on it. It kind of grunged it when I wiped off the paint, but I like that effect. Dollar Tree sticker flower and Simon Says Stamp sentiment again.

I'm thinking that I could just do 2 1/2 x 3 and mount them on a card as a small focal point. I really like this look.

I seem to love these colors. I always think of yellow as my favorite, but I often choose this teal-and-blue combo.

Glue resist and CP ink smooshing, daydream and green tea I think. A CP stamps from her "Welcome to August" stamp set. The mouse just asked to be put under that tree. 😎

The glue this time turned out to be kind of messy but I think it goes well with the smooshing. Another one that may turn into a card. 

Love this, ink resist with clear Elmer's glue, stamps from CP stamp set with Daydream ink, and a star of Wink of Stella, and dots with shiny gel pens. Ink blending with Green Tea, Eucalyptus, and Icing on the Cake. I just might have to do a Christmas card with this.

More ink blending over glue resist, with CP inks. A Dollar Tree wooden sticker that just jumped into my hands, and a word sticker from Maremi's Small Art. 

The last glue resist with Elmer's again, and sprayed with Distress ink in Seedless Grape. Maremi's sticker. This one reminded me of some kind of universe, and therefore silence. 

I love all of these in their own way. This one, I could just keep staring at and enter the universe LOL

The last thing I did is morsel #5, tissue paper background. I painted the card with Mod Podge and then pushed the crinkled tissue paper on it. When it was dry, I gently brushed it (the paper was blue) with Daydream CP ink. Sticker is from a very old booklet from Dover Books, by Carol Belanger Grafton. I think my kids were little when I got this!!! I added it to the order so I could get free shipping. The stickers were so cute I just looked at them for years. It just fit here. 

I've been making so many cards lately it was fun to do something different. And Some of these I will use when I make cards. I especially love the trees, and the universe, but the others turned out delightfully as well. And that's what I go for, satisfaction and the enjoyment of creating.
