UFO assessment

Just re reading some posts, trying to figure out when I started the rectangular blue afghan that I found deep in the closet. To my shame, 2015. I guess when my dad died, I shoved it in the closet.

Well I've been working on it in the evenings, and it's getting there. Right now, it's 36x44. If I add another 5 rows, or six if I do an edging, then it will be about 40x48 or so. I guess that will be a good lapghan size... I do not, however, know why I was making it, or who I was making it for. I didn't realize it was there, I don't really remember it. I kind of vaguely remember buying the yarn, I think I was with my daughter and son in law. But did I have a recipient in mind? Don't know. I do know that was a time of life I was kind of on autopilot. I was spending weeks at my parents' place, trying to take care of them when I really should have had them both move to assisted living. Hindsight is 20/20 though, can't go back. It's hard to do self care when you are caring for everyone else.

The trouble with cleaning out to the very bottom of that closet.... so much I don't know how to deal with. All of Mom's quilts. All well worn and well loved. All need patching. Not in good enough condition to donate. BUT..... how can I just toss them in the trash???

I did let go of more of mom's clothes. Only took me almost 5 years.

So one UFO almost done, maybe a couple more days of evening crochet.

One day at a time.

treasure the moment

Thinking of my mom a lot today. This was her jewelry, mostly butterflies.
On an afghan that she knitted.

Time goes by quickly
Then it is another year

My interest in Pinterest

I get lost in Pinterest. I resisted for about forever, but then I just jumped and decided to look at what it was about. Several hours later....... anyway I've been pinning afghans today, I have been thinking about a solid white afghan for a blanket for my bed. Not many that I pinned are actually white. LOL but there are sure a lot of wonderful ideas out there. It got me started thinking about just how many afghans I have made... not tons but more than I thought. I think my favorites were the ones with Q hook and 3 strands of yarn. I used up a lot of scrappy stash that way. Actually that would make a lovely white blanket. Especially now that I know how to do the magic knot

It was funny though because suddenly I realized I was looking at a recipe for Rainbow Slime..  I wonder how I got there....

**FINISHED!**

I've been working on this afghan for the past TWO YEARS. Maybe longer. I tucked it away when I got tired of it. I found several skeins of the variegated stuff at the thrift store for a couple dollars... and it was with skeins of green that didn't exactly match. My first thought was to make it half and half but as I went along I decided to get some blue too and stripe the second half. I got green to match and blue to match... so I actually spent six more dollars... less than ten anyway for this 48 inch square afghan. Bigger than I have ever made. Knitted anyway. I might have crocheted a bigger one.

This other afghan is one that I made for my first mother in law MANY years ago. Before I had kids. Like about 40 or so years ago!! Recently my sister in law gave it back to me. It made me smile, my version of a pastel rainbow. I had forgotten about that stitch, it's pretty.

Anyway. Only two socks away for ALL FINISHED UFOs. Two socks, you may say. That sounds like a whole pair. Actually it's 2 half pairs. Now why did I start the second pair before finishing the first?

I have no idea.

Yarny stuff

All done. I ended it with a shell stitch border. I like it. Originally I was going to donate this somewhere but I love the colors so right now it is on my bed. :) I can't seem to take its pictures so the colors are not somewhere near true... yes I have a better camera. Somewhere. Being a casual blogger not worried about What Anyone Thinks, oh well. I can look at it and know what color it is. LOL

Next up. I've been going through my stash. Yesterday I saw that my Old Faithful yarn is being discontinued. Lately it's been rough textured anyway and Lorna gave me some Caron Simply Soft and it is just that, simply soft! Mom has been making a blanket with it and it is lovely. She also gave me some sparkly stuff but only one skein each-- and they have that in the store now, so if I want to make something bigger than one skein worth, I can. I saw Lorna has a pattern I want to try... well lots of them, but this one especially caught my eye. Short Row Shawlette I'm thinking that would look cute in that sparkly stuff. I am not endorsing the seller; never bought from them, LOL it's just the first clear picture I found. I think the pattern is simple enough for even me but I'll start it at my mom's or maybe I should have lunch with Lorna soon.

I have always been a Simpleton where knitting and crocheting is concerned; patterns intimidate me. Dive in, right? Maybe my relatives will even get some yarny gifts. Don't hold your breath. LOL

AND.... drum roll. I finished a UFO I had forgotten about. All I had to do is weave in ends, LOL but hey it counts....
