Dolls dolls dolls.... Unimax Dolls of All Nations

I need to severely purge my doll collection. I stopped collecting bigger dolls altogether, and am only going to keep a few. Decisions, decisions. 

As I've said a million times, the first two dolls that started my collection of play dolls was two lovely girls that I didn't know anything about. 

They were not wearing costumes, I just loved their size and young girl look and pretty faces. They are still not wearing their costumes, they don't even have any. The dress on the left is an odd dress that was in a thrift shop bag, and the one on the right was made by Susan Israel of JUSTBEME on etsy.

Turns out they were produced by Target in the 1990s, mostly 1995 and 1996. They were made by the Unimax company, that makes many other toys. They are 12 inches tall, just right for little hands 

So I found a couple more in the thrift shop, but most of these came from Ebay or Etsy. Some were really inexpensive, like $4. Some were as much as $20.  I am in the process of drafting some patterns for them. They are nearly the same size as Wellie Wishers and Paola Reina dolls. Except they are only 12 inches tall! So instead of a skinny body, they look like normal people. 

 

 

Anybody have experience with these dolls? The last one I got is Native American. She is the only one I have ever gotten that has a wobbly head! Fine for display, but I think not for play. Anyone made clothes for them? They are really sturdy dolls. Not really poseable, but easy to dress with the clothes from Paola Reina and the Fashion Friends. My current project is clothes for these dolls, my grand daughter has a couple of them, and she will soon be the age that she will enjoy them. 

The one sitting down is one I got with part of a Mexican costume, but she didn't look like the Mexican doll so I got a Mexican doll. So far, she's my favorite, because I have no idea of her "ethnicity" so she represents my beloved country, America, where we are a melting pot of so many cultures! 

Unimax Dolls of All Nations Collection

This beautiful doll is part of the Unimax Dolls of All Nations Collection. She is Carmela from Mexico, obviously not in her native dress. (EDIT: Turns out she's not Carmela. Carmela has curly hair. Since this was a thrift shop girl, she was sloppily dressed and missing her shoes. I THINK she's the China girl, but not sure. It doesn't really matter) These dolls are wonderfully sturdy and I think will make great play dolls. I think they will survive little girls' rough play. She is in a dress from Susan Israel and BEJUSTME on Etsy.         

I love her clothes. This is the size for Ruby Red Fashion Friends, it makes a long dress on her but fits her well. I thought the Siblies dresses would fit, but they were too small around. These girls are sturdy, normal size bodies, not the skinny ones popular these days. 

Yes I like to make doll clothes. But when I saw Susan's, I just had to order some. I have two Fashion Friends but they don't mind sharing dresses. Not all Fashion Friends clothes fit these Unimax dolls. I am in the process of drafting some patterns for them. So my granddaughter's two Unimax girls should have full wardrobes in time for Christmas. Hopefully. Depression, Be GONE.

I have some catching up to do, so will probably be posting daily for a little while. I have to check and see if I posted some things. I think this is for only me but find that sometimes as many as 50 people read a post. Crazy. 

Even though I have done some pattern drafting, I decided to take a class from Chelly Wood on making pants patterns. Go to her website at chellywood.com and look around, lots of patterns for lots of sizes of dolls. And look into a class!
