A bit of Silly Writing for Today...

I found this box of cards at the thrift store, They are called "You're Making that Up! Story Cards" and they are by Dalmatian Press. I am not sure they are in business any more, I couldn't find anything about these cards. Anyway, you pick some cards and write a story from the prompts.

So I started by picking some cards. You have to choose which plot:
I chose:
the character tells a whopper of a fib

two pictures:
pillow
clothespin

location: in a foggy swamp

choose 4 words from the cards to use in your story. I chose
confusing
squishy
risky
disgusting

My Story.  Title: Risky Business

One day when I was out for a walk in a foggy swamp, I ran across a boat just sitting there on the shore. I climbed into the boat and found it was filled with squishy, wiggly worms. I decided that since the worms were there I would go fishing, but it was pretty risky to just go out  in the boat all by myself. But I caught the most beautiful fish I ever saw! It was green and pink with purple fins, and a red tail.

By this time I was sort of lost, everything looked the same and was pretty confusing. It took me awhile to figure out where I was. It sure was stinky out in the swamp. I put a clothespin on my nose. I suddenly realized that I probably smelled pretty badly by now.  I knew that my mom would be really mad at me so I decided not to say exactly where I had been.

"Hi mom!" I yelled when I finally arrived home.
"Hi sweetie! " she said, giving me a hug. "Whew! Where have you been?"
"I went over to George's house," I said, hoping she would believe me. "We were digging in the yard and we found some really disgusting stuff buried in the back yard. Sorry I ended up so dirty."
"Well go take a shower, and leave your clothes in a pile by the back door and I will get them washed."
It seemed like I was safe. I got cleaned up and changed into some clean clothes. I sure was hungry.
The phone rang.
"Hello?" said my mom."Yes, that would be fine! He can come for dinner! Could you believe how smelly these boys got today?" There was silence.
"Really? Hmmm. That's not what Walter said. I think I better ask him some questions!" She glared at me."Maybe George can come over some other time."

uh oh. I don't think I'm getting dinner. I have a feeling I am going to be hitting the pillow early tonight.

The End.
LOL

Well that was fun to make my imagination go.

The King Fire 2014

not my picture. Photog unknown

I see faces in the flames
creepy, demonic ones
like a lion
seeking whom he may devour

Even in the shape of the fire
there always seems to be a demon
laughing
at those who try to stop it.

I know I need not fear
The Lord is with me
still I quiver
in the face of such evil...

And yet.
God uses fire to describe Himself
Apart from the evil.

Wind.... rain... fire...
 both evil and good
two ends of the spectrum.

 I  see more
than just the evil
here in this mocking fire...
because I know
that GOD
will eventually be
the VICTOR.

berries and berries and berries and cherries

I have always loved the feeling of a row of freshly canned something. It feels a bit like a squirrel hiding away nuts for winter. This year, as I am tending my mother in law's house and garden, there are oh so very many berries. I picked a gallon just this morning.

In the past, I just canned it without much thought. This year, however, Not Everything Is Going Very Well.

Canning berries and cherries. I got the first batch of berries done, then a batch of cherries. Then, halfway through the second batch of berries, the stove burner died. I Muscled the canning kettle full of water and berry jars to the other burner, thanks to the weight lifting I have been doing!! The small burner would NOT get it hot enough so I had to settle for 200 degrees. So, have to do something else with the berries-- package them and freeze them. It's a shame, they are beautiful...at least I got a couple batches done before the burner died.

But before that, must get the berry cobbler done. No cornstarch. She said, "I quit buying that because of you, you can't eat it!" True, but I can't eat the berries either so why care if it's in there? oh well, I'll use flour instead. No lemon juice. Well maybe there's a lemon still out there on the tree I can use. Whew! No baking powder. oh my, off to the store. Better see what else I am missing. That's what happens when you bake in someone else's kitchen and you depend on what you have in YOUR kitchen.

Next time I am checking things out FIRST instead of running to the store in the middle of the project.

About the cobbler. After all the fuss with having to go get a lemon, I forgot to add it. And now it's baking, and even though I used the correct pan size, it is going over the sides and dripping on to the floor of the oven. Sometimes it is as if there's really a Murphy after all. She wonders why I don't do much baking? Well then. Here's the reason.

And even though I repeatedly have said I do NOT do pies, my dear mother in law is still going through her recipe file with her magnifying glass, looking for "that good pie recipe, did you know it was Fran's?"

Well she found the recipe. Macular degeneration didn't stop her. Phooey. I must be strong and resist her!

I think I'll call Fran, and tell HER to make a pie. :)
